Summer is one of the busiest times of year. Holidays are booked, weddings fill the calendar, and we're spending more time outdoors enjoying the sunshine. It's also the time when many people ask me the same question:
"Can I still have microneedling in the summer?"
The simple answer is yes, but with the right timing and aftercare.
Microneedling remains one of my favourite treatments because it works with your skin, not against it. By creating tiny, controlled micro-channels in the skin, it stimulates your body's natural production of collagen and elastin while allowing carefully selected active ingredients to penetrate more effectively. Over time, this helps improve skin texture, fine lines, enlarged pores, acne scarring, pigmentation and overall skin quality.
However, because microneedling encourages the skin to repair itself, it also makes your skin temporarily more sensitive to UV rays. That's why protecting your skin after treatment is so important.
If you're planning a holiday, I usually recommend having your microneedling treatment at least two weeks before you travel or waiting until you return. This gives your skin time to heal properly before prolonged sun exposure and allows you to enjoy your holiday without worrying about strict aftercare.
For clients who aren't going away and can commit to protecting their skin, microneedling can absolutely be carried out during the summer months. The key is being diligent with aftercare.
After your treatment, you should:
These simple steps help protect your skin while it heals and maximise your results.
One of the things I love most about microneedling is that every treatment is personalised. At Surrey Sanctuary, we begin with a consultation to understand your skin concerns and choose the most appropriate Derma 2.0 skin booster for your goals. Whether you're looking to improve hydration, firmness, pigmentation or overall skin rejuvenation, your treatment is tailored specifically to you.
To finish the treatment, I apply a soothing Medik8 Bio Cellulose Mask followed by calming skincare and SPF to help reduce redness and support the skin's recovery. Most clients leave with skin that's simply a little pink, similar to after a workout, and this usually settles within a day or two.
Many people think they need to stop all skin treatments during the summer, but that's simply not true. In fact, maintaining healthy skin throughout the warmer months can help keep your complexion looking bright, smooth and hydrated all season long. It just requires a sensible approach and professional advice.
The most important thing is not the season, it's planning your treatments around your lifestyle, holidays and skin goals.
If you're unsure whether now is the right time for microneedling, I'd always recommend booking a consultation. Together we can decide the best timing for your treatment and ensure you achieve the best possible results safely.
Healthy, glowing skin isn't just for winter. With the right care, you can enjoy beautiful skin all year round.
